Döndü Tülay Özkül

11.05.2024-31.05.2024

Tülay Özkul researches and produces works on the roles, meanings and situations of kitchen work, which is traditionally identified with women. In her practice, she explores the strange dichotomies between the roles assigned to women in kitchen work and the projections in the concepts of the artist’s studio and production, and the normative distinctions between women’s and men’s work. She focuses on creative spaces and materials such as kitchens, workshops, production spaces, sinks, kitchen tools, sculptural materials in her productions that she continues with many different materials and research. She playfully presents the existence of these objects through the meanings of the spaces, their belonging and their identitarian definitions in the space they occupy, in a feminist context, as searches for non-belonging in negative-positive contrasts and strange coexistences, seeking a form between two dimensions and three dimensions.
