11.05.2024-31.05.2024

Onur Fendaoğlu unearths women’s handicrafts, the rich folkloric heritage of Anatolia, as the main material of his works. On top of these handicrafts, motifs, stitches, sketches, paints and delicate craftworks that Fendaoğlu transforms into works by adding layers, present a layered narrative that reflects the social roles and struggles of women throughout history. In her works, she makes the Anatolian woman visible by drawing on folk culture, folk tales and images of ancient roots with mostly traditional materials and contemporary interventions. Through women’s labor, she also symbolizes the invisible, silenced but still functioning resistance of women. Drawing on the hidden aspects of folkloric and mystical stories, and compiling contemporary narratives and images of the real world, she presents a new set of expressions linking past and present in layered narratives.
