The exhibition “Lifting the Veil” aims to provoke a healing process through a collective ritual of releasing family memories carried and transmitted by women from generation to generation.
The first step of a long-term project by @edaemirdag and @nathalierey_oficial was developed in collaboration with several women communities from Gönen.
The exhibition “Lifting the Veil,” created in collaboration by artists Eda Emirdağ and Nathalie Rey and open to the participation of local women, will be on view at Ekşidere Village Coffeehouse on September 9, 2024. This exhibition, organized under the roof of Montag Residency, focuses on family stories shared by women, many of which are often filled with pain.
One of the most striking features of the exhibition is the invitation for local women to contribute their own memories to the exhibition in the warm atmosphere of the village coffeehouse. “Lifting the Veil” aims to explore the connections between individual and collective memory through photographs and objects, encouraging women of the region to lighten the burdens of the past and rediscover the strength within their stories.
The artists aim to ease the traumatic weight of these stories by bringing selected images from family archives to the surface in the form of photographs and objects. The exhibition questions and reinterprets concepts such as family ties, cultural heritage, and archives from a healing perspective.
